Colour Poems

Yellow is the taste of the yellow sun shining brightly
Yellow is the feeling of warmth from the fireplace
Yellow is the sound of monkeys chattering from the trees
Yellow is the colour of lemon plucked from a tree
Yellow is the smell of Wednesday when school ends early

-4 Opal

Here are some stories using idioms done by some of our students.

One evening, when we were just dismissed from school and I was just about to go home, my brother came and told me a secret and told me to keep it under the hat. When I was just about to tell him that my eyes are bigger than my stomach, he left. The next morning I forgot what my brother said and
I let the cat out of the bag.
By Ng Rong Joe

One morning, it was raining cats and dogs. Rong Joe wanted to take a cat nap. Rong Joe said, “It is a piece of cake to take a cat nap on a rainy day.” So he went to bed.

Mr Smith led a dog life while Mr Opaque lives high on the hog. They worked in the same company. One day, their boss called them into the office. He said, “In order to finish this project, you have to follow my order.” Mr Opaque does not like to follow orders. In the end, Mr Opaque put cart before the horse.

One afternoon at Keming Primary School, it was raining cats and dogs. I had just finished my supplementary classes and was about to go home when my friend, Rong Joe approached me. He told me that he has found one dollar on the floor and he has decided to take it. He asked me to keep it under my hat. I told him that my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Rong Joe said,”It’s okay...” and he walked away. The rain stopped after awhile and I walked home.

One night, it was raining cats and dogs. My father decided to go to Sentosa the next day. My brother, James went ape. The next day, it was very sunny. I went to brush my teeth and wash my face and I found that my brother was eating breakfast. We were eating like horses. When we got changed and was about to leave, it rained cats and dogs again. My brother and I were very upset. My father decided to go to Science Centre. I went ape because that was my favourite place!

Very Rainy Sports Day!

30th March was our annual sports day and boy, wasn't a really wet event. It was all bright and cheery in the morning but as soon as we got on the bus, there was no stopping the rain. The rain did not dampen our spirits though as we cheered for 4 Opal during the Cheerleading competition.

'Tell me, tell me, who's the best?

Cheetah, Cheetah is the best.

'Tell me, tell me, who's the best?
Cheetah, Cheetah is the best.

Yeah, cheetah!'

Visit to Civil Defence Heritage Gallery

Today, we went to visit the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery. Although it was only a one hour gallery walk, I believe we learned a lot about the history of civil defence and its role in ensuring safety for all Singaporeans. What are some of things that you learnt during this trip?

Corn Dish Making TODAY!

After planning for our corn dish over last term, we were elated to finally get the chance to see our corn dish come to life! We brought all of our ingredients and Mrs Rashied took us to the canteen to make the dish.

It was loads of fun! The most popular dish was the shortbread biscuits with cornflakes, honey and raisins by Nadya, Miza and Yen Meng. They had to make the dish twice and still did not get a chance to taste the fruit of their labour...
The yoghurt corn salad by Halistya, JingXiang and Joshua was beautifully presented! Well done guys! We also had the chance to use the digital camera to take photographs of our masterpiece!

Using Phrasal Verbs

A phrasal verb is a verb plus a preposition or adverb which creates a meaning different from the original verb. http://www.englishpage.com/prepositions/phrasaldictionary.html

Any suggestions on other forms of phrasal verbs? List them down here.

Information Report on Animals

Over the past 2 days, we went to the library to find out more about different types of animals. Mrs Rashied taught us how to write an information report. Then, we worked in groups to write out our very own information reports! Mrs Rashied then got us to present our work. If our presentation was good, we were all given blue cards. However, if we were not clear enough in our presentation or did not manage to work well in groups, we would get yellow cards. All of us did not manage to finish with our presentations. We will continue again on Monday.

Mathematics Riddles

After learning about whole numbers, the Opalists worked in groups of 3 to create a Mathematics riddle. It was difficult at first since the Opalists had to work with 5-digit numbers and the clues must able to direct the person to accurately guess the 5-digit number.

4 Opalists spent about 45 minutes to design the riddle. Check out some of these riddles!
